The NHTSA Reports Over 60,000 Pedestrians Injured in Traffic Accidents in 2021
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that there were an estimated 60,577 pedestrians injured in auto accidents and 7,388 killed in 2021 which were both increases from previous years. These are reported in their June 2023 Traffic Safety Facts Report. The report indicates that a pedestrian was injured every nine minutes in traffic crashes in 2021.
The report also indicated that 84% of fatalities occurred in urban settings while 81% occurred at night, dusk, or dawn. The low visibility outside of daylight hours is the main reason that See Me Flags includes reflective flags in our starter sets.
