Two Pedestrians Killed in Arlington County
Two Arlington County (Northern VA) residents were killed when crossing the street last week. Both people were elderly. One was crossing Columbia Pike at Four Mile Run and the other was crossing George Mason near the Hospital Center.
Distracted drivers and walkers are making pedestrian safety a national epidemic. Drivers need to be aware of walkers AND pedestrians need to be aware of cars when entering the road. Walkers should also never assume that cars will stop for them.
Using pedestrian safety system like flashing lights or crosswalk flags can help make drivers more aware but nothing is 100% full-proof.
