The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced the allocation of $50 million from the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) to fund nearly 100 safety projects across 64 cities, towns, and counties in Indiana. This initiative focuses on enhancing roadway safety and aims to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes by 25% over the next decade.
Planned improvements include upgrades to crosswalks, enhanced traffic signals, new traffic signs and pavement markings, as well as rail crossing improvements. INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith emphasized the importance of collaboration with local agencies in this collective effort to boost safety on Indiana's roads. The projects are slated for completion by the end of the state fiscal year 2027, marking a significant step toward creating safer travel environments for all road users.
